Key Highlights
- Record Export Surge: Union Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal confirmed that Tamil Nadu’s merchandise exports reached $58.95 billion in FY 2025–26, growing 13.7% year-on-year. This makes it the fastest-growing exporting state in India.
- Electronics Heavyweight: The growth is primarily fueled by smartphones and electronics, which surged 36% YoY to ~$20 billion. Tamil Nadu alone accounts for 42% of India’s total electronics exports.
- Kanchipuram’s Dominance: Housing major contract manufacturers like Foxconn and Pegatron, Kanchipuram district recorded $26.4 billion in exports—making it the second-highest exporting district in India after Jamnagar.
- Global Resilience: Despite global economic slowdowns and trade tensions, strong demand from the U.S. for smartphones and telecom gear kept Tamil Nadu’s export growth on track.
- Target 2030 ($100 Billion): Previously set a target of $100 billion in exports by 2030. With current performance, the state is already 60% of the way toward this goal.
- Diversified Sector Strength: Beyond electronics, Tamil Nadu continues to lead in traditional sectors like textiles (Tirupur cluster), leather, marine products, and automotive manufacturing (including Ford’s expanded engine production capacity).
