Prison Riot in Sri Lankan Jail

A violent riot at a prison in Sri Lanka has left at least 25 people dead and more than 100 others injured, according to local authorities. The unrest reportedly erupted inside the jail following clashes between inmates and quickly escalated into widespread violence.

Security forces were deployed to regain control of the prison as inmates damaged property and set parts of the facility on fire. Emergency medical teams rushed the injured to nearby hospitals, where several victims are said to be in critical condition.

Officials have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the riot, with early reports suggesting that tensions among inmates and disputes over prison conditions may have contributed to the violence. Authorities are also assessing the extent of the damage caused during the incident.

The Sri Lankan government has vowed to conduct a thorough inquiry into the tragedy and implement measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. Additional security personnel have been stationed at the prison to maintain order while investigations continue.

Further details are expected as officials release more information.
